If information reaching our news desk is anything to go by, Governor Udom Emmanuel, who traveled on investment trip to Istanbul last week, has been trapped in Turkey due to an alleged failed coup d’etat in the country recently.
Our source in Turkey, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said “Governor Udom Emmanuel came to Istanbul last week in the company of some of his aides in search of would-be Akwa Ibom investors was rendered incommunicado due to a sudden attempt by some elements to takeover power in the country through coup.”
The source said “Though all the borders and airport were blocked for a while but all is well now. The Governor is expected in Nigeria between Wednesday and Thursday this week by the grace of God.”
Investigation revealed that the meeting between the Governor and the would-be Akwa Ibom investors went as planned.
A member of Governor Udom’s cabinet who confirmed the situation said “there is no cause for alarm. Everything has been taken care of. Our Governor will be back any moment from Wednesday, July 20, 2016.”
Efforts to speak with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, to ascertain the true situation proved abortive
