The Second Realm Watch, a non-governmental legislative monitoring group, has said the incumbent lawmaker representing Esit Eke/Ibeno State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Dr. Usoro Akpanusoh, remains one of the finest and masses-friendly legislators in Nigeria.

In a statement in Abuja, the group said it has been monitoring the performance of members of the State Houses of Assembly and Akpanusoh remains “one of the best members in the discharge of his duties and oversight functions.”

The group said it was worrisome to see the kind of media attacks on the lawmaker over of the Property Charge Bill sponsored by him as Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

“The duty of lawmakers is to make law for the good of society including raising the bar of government income and its respond to the yearnings and aspiration of the people. We are worried that there is an orchestrated campaign against the legislator, and in general, the legislature, for doing its duty,” the group stated.

“We know that not all Bills are worthy of public support. In this instance, that is why there is a public hearing. We are grateful that the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is one of the Houses of Assembly nationwide which passes their Bills through public hearings. It, therefore, behooves on those against the Bill to go and speak up against it. Perhaps, the Bill can be dropped if it is not in the interest of the society. To use the Bill as a basis to judge Hon Akpanusoh is condemnable.”

The group, which nominated Akpanusoh as “Legislator of the year 2016- Akwa Ibom State,” says they still stand by their nomination.
