Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly says it remains committed to furthering the advocacy for girl child education in the state.
Speaker, Barrister Onofiok Luke gave the assurance, Wednesday during a courtesy visit on him by Female youths in the state under the umbrella of ‘Akwa Ibom State Female Youth’
He said the legislature will give its total support to ensure that the group realizes its goals and objective. He enjoined them to embrace entrepreneurship and politics alongside their education, but cautioned them to take their studies serious.
Barrister Luke appreciated members of the Akwa Female Youth for supporting the Udom Emmanuel led administration, and also praised them for keying into the vision of the Wife of the governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel through her pet project, FeYREP. In his words, “I appreciate the effort of this group for your support to His Excellency, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, and for your partnership with FeYREP to make the society better”.
He assured that the House of Assembly will continue to partner FeYREP in its avowed commitment of making life better for the citizenry.
“I charge you to rise to the faith greatness because God has deposited in you potentials for greatness.
“I am charging you not to come and play second fiddle anywhere in the world. ”
Earlier, the Convener of Akwa Ibom State Female Youth, Lady Edna Bassey in her speech described the group as an active and prolific training platform for forward looking, creative and self-sacrificing young ladies, who are determined to make a difference, restructure, build and get themselves repositioned by being committed to their course and useful to themselves and the society at large.
She disclosed that the group with membership strength of over 15,000 female youth cutting across the 31 local government areas in the state, is a formidable structure that has come to stay in the state. Miss. Bassey, said her members were ready to contribute their quota to the socio-political development of the state, and thanked the Speaker for granting them the audience to ventilate ideas for a better society.
“We are committed and useful because it is now time for us to fulfill the promise, to create an Akwa Ibom where every youth from every local government area of the state can fulfill her potential without impediment and without prejudice. To make sure that nobody ever again will doubt for even an instant that our female youth can reach any height of professionalism, or indeed a leader in any field that she might choose”.
The group presented a wall clock to the Speaker as souvenir.
Present during the courtesy call were the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Princess Felicia Bassey, and the member representing Oron/Udunguko state constituency, Hon. Effiong Bassey.
