BATTLE FOR ABAK FED. CONSTITUENCY SEAT: EMMANUEL EKON FIGHTS CONSTITUENTS

By Gabriel Akpan
It has been alleged that the lasting peace that exists among natives of Abak Federal Constituency may be a thing of the past following moves by people sympathetic to Mr. Emmanuel Ekon’s third term ambition to butcher, maim and murder anyone found opposing the ambition.
It is reported that, ever since Mr. Ekon’s benefactor, Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem, who is the immediate past Commissioner for Industry, Commerce and Investment, openly kicked against his third term ambition, the national assemblyman has taken to mobilizing some known riffraff and internet fraudster to smear the character of Enoidem.
As a follow-up to series of unprovoked attacks on people in Enoidem’s school of thought, some hoodlums led by Ekon’s brother on Sunday, violently accosted with broken bottles and dangerous weapons, the immediate past Executive Chairman of Etim Ekpo, Hon. Uduot Jack and nearly stabbed him to death, but not for the intervention of some security operatives.
An eyewitness who narrated the story on condition of anonymity maintained that at a barbing saloon which also hosts a bar within the precinct of the Shelter Afrique Estate, men suspected to be hired thugs almost perfected the plot to eliminate the former Etim Ekpo council boss.
The report has it that it was not long after Uduot Jack patronized the saloon, that the Ekon brothers alongside some fierce looking strangers approached him and violently asked why he is not supporting Emmanuel Ekon.
Not allowing him a chance to say a word, they swooped on Jack in a commando styled approach and in the process destroyed properties worth several thousands of Naira belonging to both the former Chairman and the business facility before security officers suspected to be attached to one of the nearby properties came to his rescue.
Jack who was recently appointed member of the State Road Maintenance Agency by Governor Udom Emmanuel is said to have cautioned the two term National Assembly man to have a rethink regarding his ambition noting that such quest will not augur well with the people of Abak Local Government Area who have patiently waited for him to finish his eight year stay in the green Chambers.
Relying on the existing zoning arrangement, Jack is reported to have advised that such ambition would be counterproductive for the PDP and the area’s political culture, especially with the deceit Ekon rode on to a actualize his second term ambition, which amounted to shortchanging the people of Abak Local Government Area.
This would be taking Emmanuel Ekon’s animosity against political opponents to the extreme as it appears his brothers, acting on his instructions have Constituted themselves into cells of violence both in the media and physically to buy their brother a political lifeline.
It would be recalled that the violent nature of Emmanuel Ekon and his siblings could be traced back to their early days where the senior Ekon was nicknamed BULLY by his classmate, a vice he displayed in the last administration when he allegedly bullied the present Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Barrister Onofiok Luke at a funeral event.
So far, the entirety of stakeholders in Abak Federal Constituency has backed out from the aspiration of Emmanuel Ekon describing same as greedy, insensitive, self-serving and unfortunate.
Confirming the sad incidence, Hon Uduot Jack thanked God and the swift response of security operatives in rescuing him from the shackles of Ekon’s men of the underworld.
This reporter also revealed that Ekon’s penchant for violence and what is described as “use and dump politics” may have led to the abandonment of Uduak Ephraim, a media practitioner supporter who was abandoned the moment Ekon landed Abuja in his first term, while the forum of student leaders who took his second term aspiration as a Creed had long cursed and left him to no man’s land.
