Before Nigeria can successfully do justice to its desire of giving education to all its citizenry, stakeholders must be interested in ensuring that the youths have unfettered access to basic education by emulating the Akwa Ibom Free and Compulsory Education Policy.

This counsel came from a leading aspirant to the Ikono/INI Federal Constituency seat, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, when he shared his thoughts recently with journalists in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital, on universal basic education.

According to Obong Ukpong-Udo, there is need for all relevant stakeholders in the education sector to know that Nigeria has a challenge in its education sector and it is the responsibility of the National Assembly to make sure that every Nigerian child has access to basic education.

He commended government of Akwa Ibom State for raising the bar of basic education in the country, saying “Akwa Ibom State has sustained the lead in the overall performance in WASSCE results by the West African Examination Council (WAEC).”

Obong Ukpong-Udo urged states to step up the standard of their education, saying “I want to also urge on states to step up, restrategize and invest more in basic education.”

Explaining, the National Assembly aspirant said “The vision statement of Nigeria’s Universal Basic Education states that every child should acquire appropriate and relevant skills and values and be employable in order to contribute his/her own quota to national development.”

When elected, Obong Ukpong-Udo assured that proper and adequate budgetary provision will be made to carter for Nigeria’s teeming youths through basic education.

He promised a new dawn to the people of Akwa Ibom and Ikono/INI Federal Constituency in 2019 through his blueprints.
