A’IBOM SPEAKER URGES YOUTH TO PRIORITIZE PEACE, DEVELOPMENT

The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has urged youths to see peace building as a priority in the interest of societal development.

The Assemblyman made the call when he played host to members of Organised Uruan Youth Forum (OUYF), over the weekend in Uyo.

The Speaker said that peace building would foster social cohesion and inclusion of youths in leadership positions.

While acknowledging the group’s support and loyalty, Rt. Hon. Bassey stressed that Uruan and the entire state needed more development and tasked the youths to play pivotal roles in such process by acting as peace ambassadors at all times.

The Lawmaker who urged the youths not to focus only on politics, advised them to boost self-reliance by taking advantage of the various entrepreneurship programmes in the state, especially, the Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey Youth Entrepreneurship Support Scheme (RYHAB-YES).

He reiterated his commitment towards creating a conducive environment to drive youths to greatness in their chosen vocation.

Earlier in his remarks, the President of OUYF, Mr Samuel Peter, described the group as the Speaker’s brain child which has ensured fairness and equity in the political arrangements, as witnessed in the present day Uruan Nation.

He thanked the Speaker for his continued assistance to members of the group and made various requests on behalf of the group.

Highpoint of the visit was the conferment of an Award of Excellence on the Speaker.
