Governor Udom Emmanuel has advocated the need for political gladiators in the country to uphold democratic tenets as it is practice in other climes to allow for a level playing ground in political activities by other parties as provided for in the Country’s Constitution.

Governor Emmanuel made the advocacy while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents shortly on his arrival at Ibom International Airport from Port Harcourt where he participated in the just concluded national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party.
UDOM EMMAN
He described as a rape on democracy attempt to scuttle a legitimate programme of a duly registered political party in a country that is practicing a multi party system saying such action which had gone beyond internal party wrangling is typical of a third world country such as ours.
Mr. Emmanuel who frowned at the barricade of Shark Stadium, venue earlier scheduled for the PDP convention by security operative who were armed to the teeth, observed that such action has truncated the growth of democracy in the country and sued for a re orientation to enable the country move forward and blaze the trail as regards political culture and all- round development.
The Governor however spoke of the Port Harcourt outing as a huge success for the Peoples Democratic Party saying it has enable the party to chart a new course for it sustainability and reconciliation of all interest.
Commenting on the news report circulated by a section of the media that Akwa Ibom Government House was invaded by Ex-militants who demanded payment of their allowances, Mr Emmanuel said such spurious allegation is unfounded.
He noted that some people take delight in fabricating stories to suit their wimps and caprices saying that the Police dispersed a crowd in the streets, the next thing it was reported with screaming headline that the state Government House was invaded by Ex-militants.
He spoke against approaching every development with political colouration and wandered why the mob would have been allowed to carry on with such action when there is an existing law restraining all forms of unlawful gathering and said that he would not be distracted by such commentaries but work to realize the social contract which he entered with Akwa Ibom people.
Governor Emmanuel used the opportunity to warn the people to desist from taking laws into their hands and particularly commended the security operative for rising to the occasion by ensuring that the mob was dispersed and urged vendors of such misguided information to always verify their facts before going the press saying such information is capable of breaking the society.
