ROTARY CLUB HONOURS GENERAL EDET AKPAN, EXTOLLS HIS SUPPORT TO BASIC EDUCATION

The Rotary club of Uyo Shelter Afrique has honoured a prominent Akwa lbom Elder Statesman and retired General in the Nigerian Army, General Edet Akpan as the Education Ambassador of the club.

Decorating the Elder Statesman, the president of the club, Rotarian Mercy Edet said the honour done to the retired General was borne out of his exceptional support to Rotary International as well as his selfless services to the club especially in the area of education

The honour was done to the retired General during the weekly fellowship of the club which was held at his residence as a mark of respect to the retired General who is a Rotarian and a Paul Harry’s fellow in Rotary International.

According to Rotarian Edet, ln Rotary International, it is allowed to fellowship with a Rotarian who is up to 70 years or above in his house as a sign of respect.

Responding to the honour done him, Retired General Edet Akpan lauded the club for finding him worthy of the honour, stressing that the greatest gift is serving humanity, saying “this is what makes Rotary International most outstanding in humanitarian services.”

He reminded Rotarians that Rotary is a club to serve and meet ceaseless relationship.

“I am overwhelmed with love. Thank you for bringing fellowship to my house. To serve rotary is to share God’s blessings with others.”

He expressed satisfaction on the growth and expansion of Rotary Club in Uyo, saying that there was nothing like Rotary Club in Akwa Ibom State during his time as a Rotarian in Ikeja, Lagos State.

The Retired General however encouraged Rotarians to remain steadfast and committed in sharing God’s abundance blessings with others in line with the six areas of focus of Rotary International.

Some Rotarians at the fellowship were, Rotarian Taiwo Attah, Rotarian Dr. Bola Bola, Rotarian Victoria Ekong amongst others.
