The member representing Itu State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem has commended Governor Udom Emmanuel on the speedy reconstruction of the failed portion in Calabar-Itu highway and making it passable for motorists during this festive season.

Recalling the Governor’s promise of re-opening the road for use in December during the inspection of the ongoing work, Edidem said such fulfillment was one of the many he has delivered to the people of Itu in particular and Akwa Ibom in general since taking over the leadership of the state.
“Governor Udom Emmanuel during the inspection of the collapsed portion of Calabar-Itu Highway promised the people of Akwa Ibom State that the road will be in use during the festive period, has delivered on the promise.
“This is highly commendable. We have seen such interventions in almost every part of the state and we as a people are grateful and very lucky to have a man who honours his words.”
Describing the road as an economic gateway into the state, the lawmaker thanked Governor Emmanuel for releasing funds for a speedy work despite the shortfall in revenue, saying with the quick intervention, the stress of Nigerians who use the road daily have been eased.
“It is no longer news that what Akwa Ibom receives today as revenue is far below what we used to receive from the Federal government, that is why we thank His Excellency for the speedy release of funds which has enabled the contractors to execute the job.
“Calabar-Itu Highway is an economic gateway into Akwa Ibom State. The road links many states in Nigeria to Akwa Ibom and if it is broken and not usable, then it becomes a problem,” he concluded.
