A’IBOM SPEAKER BIDS NONAGENARIAN, EKPENYONG ETEFIA, FAREWELL

Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, on Saturday, joined Governor Udom Emmanuel, Honourable Commissioners, Local Government Council Chairmen and friends of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Petroleum Matters, Sir Victor Etefia, to bid farewell to Late Chief Ekpenyong Etefia, who died at the age of 90.

The funeral service, conducted by Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), took place at Unity Secondary Commercial School, Oduk Town, Ikono Local Government Area.

Rt. Hon. Bassey, in his condolence message to Sir Etefia on the demise of his father, urged members of the family to “look beyond the demise of their Patriarch and be consoled by the good life of peace he lived and the very many inspiring legacies he has bequeathed to you and the entire community.”

He prayed “the Almighty God to imbue the family with His grace and strength to Bear the irreplaceable loss as well as the vacuum his demise has created in their life.”

In his homily, the Archbishop of Calabar of the MCN, Most Revd. Emmanuel Udofia, admonished children to continually show love and care to their parents while alive so as to beget same at their old age.

The bereaved, Sir Etefia, led his wife, Lady Ekaette, members of the family, friends and well-wishers to a Thanksgiving in honour of his late father.
The event was attended by many including Governor Udom Emmanuel, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, Senator Chris Ekpenyong, Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, Hon. Pat Ifon, Sir Udo Kierian Akpan, Rt. Hon. Mark Esset, Hon. Asuquo Nana, Mr. Akan Okon, Mr. Itoro Columba and wife, Ekaette, Lady Emem Ibanga, Barrister Goddy Umoh, among others
