GOV UDOM WARNS CONTRACTORS AGAINST SUB-STANDARD JOBS

Contractors handling projects in Akwa Ibom state which does not stand the test of time upon completion will henceforth bear the cost of maintenance and repairs without any form of support from the state government.
Governor Udom Emmanuel stated this while commissioning Information Drive constructed by his administration as part of activities to mark the governor’s one year anniversary in office.
According to him, one of the things that will drive Akwa Ibom of the next generation is sustainable infrastructure. “As you see this road being done today, I can bet you if anything goes wrong in the next 10 years, the contractor will have to fix it free of charge for us because we are building our road with guarantee” he stated.
The Governor who also pointed out security as another key factor that will guarantee the Akwa Ibom of the next level urged youths to shun all form of criminality so as not to scare potential investors away.. He commended Akwa Ibom youths for ensuring a crime free society but urged the few who indulge in crime to turn a new leaf. “If we try to set up proper economic foundation for the youths but they choose not to be patient and want to indulge in crime, the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on criminals. Let us shun crime so that we can attract direct foreign investment to our dear state”.
Governor Udom Emmanuel who promised to do more in the years to come also called on journalists to be patriotic by sending the right information to the public especially now that the world has become a global village saying there are information that when released can scare away potential investors from the state.
“I believe this is a handshake of love and unity. Information is power; it can either bring down or build. Some of the things we suffer today as a nation are because we have not sent the right information to the world. It is not about Udom Emmanuel but the state, let us not publish things that can actually bring down the state, let us love ourselves by shunning falsehood, blackmail and propaganda and stick to the truth that can bring investors to our state. With information we can do a whole lot” he concluded.
In a goodwill message, the chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists Akwa Ibom State Council, Elder Patrick Albert thanked the Governor Udom Emmanuel for fulfilling his promise saying the gesture was a marriage of trust.
An indigene of the area who spoke with our correspondent described the governor as a father in the true sense of the word who despite all the negative reports against him in newspapers looked beyond to construct Information Drive. “From today, I surrender my 100% loyalty to him and his government, he is a good man.”
