TOWN HALL MEETING: AKHA SPEAKER PROMISES MORE DEVELOPMENT FOR CONSTITUENTS

The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, on Tuesday, said he will continue to collar with the state government for more project into state constituency in Uruan Local Government Area.

Rt. Hon. Bassey stated this at the Town Hall Meeting and Constituency Briefing organised by him at the Council Hall, Idu Uruan Local Government Secretariat.

Continuing, the Lawmaker who thanked his constituents for their support during the last general elections in the state, pointed out that the current administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel will continually favour them.

He assured the people of government’s readiness to complete all ongoing projects in the area, revealing that two new companies and an Aviation School facilitated by the state government were underway in Uruan LGA.

“The position I’m occupying today is because you supported me. I am here to say thank you for the support you gave the Governor and the PDP during the last election. If you did not support Governor Udom Emmanuel and the PDP, Uruan would have been behind and I wouldn’t have been the Speaker today.

“The administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel will continue to benefit Uruan nation. You have seen all the projects started by the government, I can assure you that all ongoing projects in Uruan will be completed” he said.

He also revealed that some parts of the area which were in total blackout have been reconnected to the national grid, through the provision of new transformers, but however said that for development to thrive in Uruan, the people must remain peaceful and united.

“I have to be very frank, it annoys me when people try to sabotage efforts by the government to bring development to a particular area. I am appealing for peace and togetherness amongst us, so that more development projects will come to us”, the Speaker added.

While expressing happiness over the return of peace to some crisis-ridden communities in Uruan, Rt. Hon. Bassey noted that talks were ongoing, for government to provide relief materials to the affected communities.

He said that there are plans to reward those who were yet to benefit from his empowerment programmes, saying “this is just six months into my tenure, more will come. Some of us will be appointed as Aides to the Governor. So don’t envy those that will be empowered today, because what is coming ahead, is greater.”

Also speaking, the Wife of the Speaker and President of the Legislators Wives Association (LEWA), Mrs Itohowo Bassey, thanked the women and entire Uruan people for their unflinching support.

Mrs Bassey appreciated the Wife of the Governor, Dr Martha Emmanuel for her benevolence to Uruan women, sued for unity amongst the women.

Others who spoke at the event were the Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Henry Udofia, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Okon Okon, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom Roads and other Infrastructures Maintenance Agency, Dr. Godwin Ntukudeh and the Chairman of PDP in Uruan LGA, Mr. Obot Essien.

Highpoints of the event were the presentation of cars, mini buses, tricycles, motorcycles, generating sets, washing and sewing machines, business starter packs, educational grants, wrappers and other cash gifts to the people.

The event was also graced by a former House of Assembly Member in Uruan, Rt. Hon. Usenobong Akpabio, Elder statesmen, senior stakeholders, the political class, the clergy, including women and youth groups from Uruan extraction.
