Publicity Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Ini Ememobong, has commended his colleagues, the ‘Class of 2000’ students of St. Mary’s Science College, Abak, for their show of love and contribution to the school 17 years after.
Speaking at the event organized to commemorate their graduation from the school and reunion, Barrister Ememobong recalled with nostalgia his early days as a student of the College, adding that his height in life was shaped by the excellent foundation he got from his alma mater.
He thanked all the teachers that taught the ‘Class of 2000’ students, particularly the then Principal of the College who is now the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Ukana, Mr. Chrysanctus Azuka, for the knowledge and good virtues they instilled in them.


Publicity Secretary of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the PDP, who was the College’s MC then, urged students to be studious, accord their teachers and the school authority respect for a better tomorrow.
“We can never be older than this uniform. This uniform made us. So I encourage you to study hard. Respect your teachers and the school authority. I encourage you to aspire to be whatever you want to be, and you will become just that,” he maintained.
While presenting indelible gifts to some of their teachers, the old students also donated 20 executive chairs for use by the staff; 50 single chairs for use at the Chapel and the sum of N200,000 as support to the school.
Barrister Ememobong further said, in appreciation of the school’s contribution to their progress in life, the ‘Class of 2000’ students will endeavour to make the event a yearly routine.
In his remarks, Mr. Azuka, who the them Principal of the College, thanked the old students for their thoughtfulness and kind gesture towards their alma mater and urged other old students to emulate the ‘Class of 2000’ students, saying their donations and recognitions were highly commendable.
While lauding his former students for their heights in life, Mr. Azuka noted that the best form of investment is that done to improve the quality of education, calling on government, private sector, parents and old students to come together to reclaim the nation’s lost glory in the education sector.
The event featured nuggets from the old students, cultural display and a cozy banquet.
