A’IBOM COMMUNITY RAISES ALARM OVER ATTACK BY HERDSMEN


Member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barrister Ime Okon, has called on his constituents in some communities that have been under consistent attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen to continue to maintain calm and peaceful disposition.
The lawmaker assured that that he was in contact with relevant stakeholders, including, the traditional institution, the security agencies, and leaders in the affected communities to ensure that the root causes of the attacks were addressed as soon as possible.
Barrister Okon, who is the House Committee on Information, urged his constituents to continue to be peaceable, and law abiding, no matter the level of provocation as the state government has already taken steps to ensure their safety.
He commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for his timely intervention in the situation that has averted escalation of crisis.
The lawmaker, who also commended the State Police Command for taking prompt security measures to douse tension in the affected communities, urged the Police and other security agencies handling the issue to demonstrate the highest level of professionalism, in view of the sensitivity and volatility that attend the matter at hand by ensuring that their activities do not endanger human rights’ issues.
Barrister Okon assured his constituents that he would continue to ensure that their wellbeing and security of their lives and property were guaranteed at all times in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
However, Barrister Okon accentuated that the House will take appropriate legislative actions on the unfortunate incident.
