ROTARY CLUB DONATES ACADEMIC MATERIALS TO SCHOOL, ENCOURAGES STUDENTS TO FOCUS ON STUDYING

As part of its social responsibility in covering the six areas of focus in Rotary International, the Rotary Club of Uyo Shelter Afrique has donated educational materials worth thousands of naira to Methodist secondary school, lbiaku lshiet, Uruan Local Government Area.

Educational materials which were presented to the School include dozens of exercise books stamped with the Rotary logo, Arts and Science textbooks, Biro pens, Assorted dictionaries, marker pens, mathsets as well as white Boards donated by Excellence community Educational welfare scheme (ECEWS) to the club to support the Basic Education and Literacy month of the club.

The gesture is to mark the 2019 Basic Education and Literacy month in Rotary which is observed September of every year.

Addressing the teachers and students the president of the Rotary club of Uyo shelter Afrique, Rotarian Mercy Edet said Rotary International in its usual manner has been intervening in key areas to support Government in providing basic needs to the society as evidence in the donation of books to the school.

She appreciated the management of the school for the warm reception and the students for conducting themselves properly as well as keeping the school environment clean.

“We are not strangers to you, this school has already been adopted as one of the schools that will be benefitting from the Roary club academic support programme. We are here to ask you to be good children.” She said.

While advising the students to redouble their effort by studying hard, Rotarian Edet particularly gave kudos to ECEWS for providing the white Boards to the club and all Rotarians for ensuring the success of the Basic Education and Literacy month, advising the school to make Judicious use of the books to their benefit.

Giving her motherly advice, the incoming president of the RC USA, Rotarian Taiwo Attah told the students to believe in themselves, be committed to their studies, inculcate good morals as well as shun social vices that will not only tarnish their image, but that of their families

On her part, a journalist and the club’s admin, Victoria Ekong who talked on “Journalism ” advised the students to study what they have passion for, urging them not to be intimidated by the success of others in their career.

Speaking on “Career Choices” a Rotarian and lecturer, University of Uyo, Dr Bola Agboola advised the students to choose their subjects base on the profession they want to go into in future, while advising them to add value to their lives by studying hard to make excellent results.

“No man will give a price on you if you don’t add value to your life,you are the only limitation to yourself if you study hard the sky will be your beginning.”

Rotarian Ekong encouraged the students to discard anything that will not allow them remain focus and committed to their studies, advising them to concentrate on subjects that relates with what they intend to study in the university.

“Do not follow people because you may not be destined to be like him/her.” She added.

They pledged to use the Educational materials judiciously.

The event featured cultural display by the school cultural troupe and Rotary songs by the interact club of the school.

In appreciation, the outgoing principal of the school, Mrs. Monica Edet, the incoming principal Mrs Paulina Edem, and the senior prefect of the school, Abasi-ikpongke Edet Etim extolled the humanitarian spirit of Rotary International.

In attendance were Rotarian Godwin Ekpeyong, Ignatius macaulay, chibuzo, and a representative of ECEWS .
