As part of its strategies for massive victory in the forthcoming Local Government election, Ibeno Chapter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Contact, Mobilization and Advisory Committee on Monday announced the appointment of Ward Coordinators and Secretaries to aid smooth mobilization and reconciliation of its members.
Speaking at the event which drew hundreds of party faithful and loyalists to the PDP Chapter Secretariat, Upenekang, Honorary Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties and Coordinator of Ibeno Local Government Contact and Mobilization Committee, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, stressed the need for tolerance and reconciliation amongst the party members, adding that “the nomination is over. It was a no victor, no vanquish situation. Whatever victory is recorded is victory for all. We must learn to respect one another with high level of tolerance.”
The Coordinator, who led other members of the Committee of the Party to the event, acknowledged the continuous support of the people of Ibeno for the PDP, stressing that such support has continued to position the PDP in Akwa Ibom as the party with the winning formula in all elections in the state.
He advised members of the party to exhibit a high level of unity and cohesiveness to successfully approach future elections, particularly the December 2, 2017, elections, saying “for proper reconciliation and mobilization, there is need for us to reach out to the grassroots.”
Rt. Hon. Etteh, who commended party faithful and supporters for their steadfastness, unity and resolute in keeping faith with the party all throughout the short time the party was faced with crises at the national level, maintaining that with the crisis over, the PDP was back on its feet to take over her place at the national level as the ruling party, adding “If in the course of politicking during the last local government primaries I had stepped on any toe or toes, I sincerely wish to appeal for forgiveness. The purpose of today’s meeting is to announce Ward Coordinators and Secretaries for proper synergy with the grassroots at the Ward level. We will continue to synergize with elders and stakeholders of the party for the purpose of mobilizing voters for the forthcoming elections.”
He further assured that an enlarged meeting of the party elders and stakeholders would be called upon within a fortnight where the Coordinators, Secretaries and members of the Committees at the Ward level would be inaugurated.
In his remark, a senior stakeholder in Ibeno PDP, Hon. Samuel Ekpenyong, advised all members on the need to close gap and wok as a family, reminding them of “the Ibeno PDP tradition during election. The tradition of winning 100 per cent for PDP in Ibeno must be maintained. Those of you who could not make it through the nomination must remain steadfast as the PDP umbrella is big enough to accommodate everyone.”
Also speaking, a former Councillor from Mkpanak Ward 3, Hon. Samuel Eyo Etokere, who moved a motion for a vote of confidence on Governor Udom Emmanuel for his forthrightness in driving governance in Akwa Ibom State and for the trust reposed on the political leader of Ibeno, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, as Chairman of the Electoral Panel of the just concluded Local Government primaries in the state.
Highpoints of the event was the adoption and confirmation of Coordinators and Secretaries Contact and Mobilization Committee in the 10 Wards.
Those who attended the meeting included the Transition Chairman of Ibeno, High Chief Henry Mkpa; all Ibeno PDP Chapter Executives, all Ward Chairmen; all the PDP Councillorship candidates, the Chairmanship and Vice Chairmanship candidates; 10 Ward elders, youth leaders, woman leader among others.
Those appointed as Ward Coordinators are Hon. Ikoedem Ekong (Ward 1), Mr. Monday William (Ward 2), Mr. Ekpenyong Enyina (Ward 3), Hon. Peter Upere (Ward 4), Bishop Okon Ukpe Afaiko (Ward 5), Hon. Joshua Mkpat (Ward 6), Hon. Ibok Peter Etukudo (Ward 7), Hon. Prince Samuel Ita (Ward 8), Samuel Samuel Akpan (Ward 9) and Bassey Robert Mfon (Ward 10).
Others appointed as Ward Secretaries included Godwin Enyina John (Ward 1), Rt. Hon. Friday Harry (Ward 2), Hon. Samuel Otokere (Ward 3), Rt. Hon. Sunday Johnson (Ward 4), Gabriel Abakam Efa (Ward 5), Friday Ebong (Ward 6), Patrick Samuel Akpan (Ward 7), Daniel Solomon (Ward 8), Hon. Roseline Ekah (Ward 9) and Samuel kpan Akpanam (Ward 10).
