Ahead of the forthcoming local government election, Chairman of the State Electoral Panel of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, has assured aspirants to the party primaries in the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom of equity, fairness and justice.
Rt. Hon. Etteh, who spoke with our reporter shortly after the inauguration of his Committee at the State Secretariat of the party, said “I assure all aspirants to the party’s primaries in their respective local government Areas that my committee will do everything within the ambits of its power to deepen internal democracy in Akwa Ibom State.”
The Chairman of the State Electoral Panel, a former Leader of the State House of Assembly and currently a Honorary Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, urged aspirants to exercise the height of decorum in their obligations to the party, adding that “there will be free and fair primaries.”
He said merit will be the hallmark for all the aspirants that will eventually fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming local government election.
Rt. Hon. Etteh further said his Committee will do everything to ensure the directive of the Governor, which includes respect for zoning and rotation, is carried out.
The Chairman of the Electoral Panel, therefore, thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel, who is the leader of the party in the state, for the responsibility given him and promised to abide by its tenets for peace, progress and development of Akwa Ibom.
