ITU WARD-5 COUNCILLOR HOLDS END OF YEAR GET-TOGETHER PARTY

… Receives APC Returnees, Donate Wrappers To Women, Shoes To Pupils

The Councillor representing Ward 5 in Itu Legislative Council, Honourable George Akpan on Saturday, December 28, 2019, hosted his Ward to a Christmas Get-together party to appreciate them for electing him into the council.

The get-together which took place at Ikot Ukap Itam Town Hall, Itu Local Government Area, had in attendance leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the area, Councillors, women, youths and students.

Hon. George used the opportunity to thank the people for trusting him to represent them and for showing such support to the umbrella party which is at all times ready to accommodate her members.

“I want to thank Ward 5 for trusting me to represent them as Councillor despite having other competent hands.

“I am here today to say thank you to my ward. It’s been two years since I resumed office, I am not doing empowerment, but rather showing gratitude to my people.

“You elected me to go to Itu Local Government Legislative Council in 2017 to serve as your Councillor. Itu Local Government Legislative Council without mincing words is the best Council in Akwa Ibom State,” he said.

In appreciation, Hon. George presented 40 wrappers to women of the area, with a promise to do more for those who have not benefitted from the scheme.

In support of the free and compulsory education policy of the state government, Hon. George donated 100 pair of shoes to primary school pupils in the ward, who he said were spotted during the legislative council’s visit to primary schools in Itu. The Councillor also gave cash donations to the people.

Also speaking, the member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, Rt Hon (Dr) Henry Archibong, said he is happy with George, whom he described as a son in the political field.

Archibong said “George is my son, I produced him as the Councillor of ward 5 since the zoning came to Ikot Ukap Itam, consequently, he has performed magnificently in his area of jurisdiction.

“I want you to continue to support him, this is just the beginning, he will do more and will not disappoint you.”

A former two-term member representing Itu State Constituency, in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ekaette Ebong Okon, who is the Chairman Ward 5 Elders Council, thank the Councillor for showing gratitude to the people.

“I thank Hon. George Akpan for showcasing such a didactic gesture to his people. George is a giver whom today has shown dividends of democracy to the people of ward 5”.

The PDP Chairman Ward 5, Itu LGA, Elder Joseph Nkutt thank the people for coming out en-mass to the event and said the event is timely as it coincides with the birth of Jesus Christ.

“What you have seen today is not a new thing, it’s a continuous process which our dear ward Councillor, Hon. George Akpan has come to thank the people for voting him into the office and of course, commemorate the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ”.

Hon. Barr. Kennedy Ekong, former member representing Itu State Constituency in the AKHA said, “Hon. George Akpan has shown working and reported good progress to the people of ward 5 which is commendable in nature”

The event also received defecting 72 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) back to the party.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Mr Effiong Nelson said “I’m so grateful and happy to be received by the good people of ward 5 under the umbrella of PDP because, at a time in a man’s life, I need to take a decision which warranted my transition, glory be to God that I am back today.

“Today, we are standing here to reject APC as a party, PDP is a strong party bounded with love and affection,” he concluded.

Others who spoke glowingly of Hon George’s representation at the event include Hon Bernard Ekpenyong, former Councilor and Deputy Chapter Chairman, PDP; Hon Charles Ndadnyonmong, Former Deputy Chapter Chairman; Elder Effiong Eyibio; Elder Edem Ukut, PDP Chairman, Ward 6; Hon Ndifreke Ndon, former Transition Secretary, Itu Local Government Council; Elder Usoro, former Chairman, Ward 5; Hon Asukwo Etuk and many others.

Former Councilors in the ward at the event were Hon Mfon James, Hon Victor Nkutt and Hon (Barr) Godwin Etim.

Colleagues at Itu Legislative Council present at the event include Hon Peace Archibong – Ward 7; Hon. Otobong Ekong – Ward 8 and Hon Ime Victor Etim – Ward 4.
