Before now, the vision of the Nigerian police force has been “To make Nigeria safer and more secure for economic development and growth; to create a safe and secure environment for everyone living in Nigeria.” In Akwa Ibom State, the reverse is the case.

Its core value has been “working together with people irrespective of religious, political, social or economic affiliations to deliver quality police service that is accessible to the generality of the people.” Today, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has completely, without reservation, abused that core value.

It is very worrisome the spate at which the Command’s Heads (Commissioners) are being rolled out, particularly when they don’t take instructions from the “Ukana gods.”

The question every Akwa Ibom man is asking the Inspector General of Police is: why consistently deploy and redeploy Police Commissioners in the state? Why permanently kept the office of Deputy Commissioner of Police and that of Assistant Commissioner of Police in the state vacant? Why intentionally allow the most senior CSP, particularly Mr. Brown, to act as Deputy Commissioner of Police?
