The Member representing Eket/ONNA/Esit Eket/Ibeno Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Okpolupm Etteh, has commended the commitment of Utono Obolo to the unity and progress of the Obolo people.
Hon. Etteh gave the commendation at Ulok-Ulok Hall, Upenekang, Ibeno Local Government Area, on Saturday during the 4th anniversary celebration of Utono Obolo, a frontline socio-cultural and pro-development group of the Obolo people.
While also commending the leadership of the group for the excellent converge, Hon. Etteh, who is the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on University Education, maintained that the theme of the event, ‘Obolo Beyond Ethnic Subjugation,’ was apt and instructive.
He added that “Over the past four years, we have worked tirelessly to promote our cultural heritage, support development initiatives, and empower our people. Together, we have made a difference in the lives of many and have shown the strength and resilience of the Obolo Community.”
“I am inspired by your dedication and passion. Your commitment to our shared goals and your unwavering support for one another is truly commendable. Let us continue to stand united. Let us continue to work together towards a brighter future for the Obolo people. As we mark this milestone, let us look forward to the journey ahead and the impact we will continue to make in our community.”
He further charged the group to always celebrate the Obolo heritage, work for the prosperity of the Obolo and strive for a future where the Obolo will thrives beyond ethnic subjugation.
The event, which saw a convergence of Obolo people worldwide, was attended by the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, who was represented by Mr. Sam Ndaeyo; Transition Committee Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Council, Hon. Emma Ibok; former Chairman of Ibeno Local Government Council, Chief Williams Mkpah; Dr. John Ukpatu; Prof. E. S. Bartimeaus Ebirien-Agana; King B.M.H Egwenwe Oruk XVII; Mr. Samuel Ekpeyong; Prof. Nkan Ibok; the Village Head of Upenekang, Obong J. T. Eshiet; Mr. Sam Mmong; Chief Okon Udofia; Sir & Lady Marcus Anene; Ibeno CAN Chairman, Rev. David Odiongito; Pastor Festus and Emmanuel Nnitor, among others.
Highpoint of the event was the ceremonial cutting of cake to symbolize unity and shared heritage. Utono Obolo is led by Dr. Awaji-Romsan Dressman as the Administrator General.
