Chairman of Moses Enoidem Foundation and National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Emmanuel Enoidem, has said service to humanity remains the remarkable reason for his 54 birthday celebration.
Speaking with the Managing Editor of Ibom Telegraph at his country home, Utu Ikot Eboro, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, during the 2018 Anniversary Celebration of Grace Hospital, the PDP National Legal Adviser said “The fact that I have the opportunity to serve humanity is the reason for this celebration. I could have failed a lot of people, I could have failed a lot of expectations but I know that as a person, and from a very positive objective point of view, I have not failed myself. At 54, I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to serve humanity.”
All medical services at Grace Hospital, a purpose built free medical service centre of Moses Enoidem Foundation, according to Barrister Enoidem, are offered free of charge.
“On our row and intake of patients, we have had more than 7,000 patients passed through the hospital and over 500 of them have passed through surgical operations. So, it has been three years of fulfilled, justified and glorious operation,” he added.
In his remarks at the event, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom applauded Barrister Enoidem for providing humanitarian services to the people and described the annual free medical services of Grace Hospital as being very impactful, particularly, on the grassroots.
The Governor, who donated an ambulance to the hospital, stressed that “when a man has mercy on the poor, he is lending to God,” maintaining that the large turnout of people at the event indicated that they wished him well and appreciated his humanitarian gesture.
Governor Emmanuel spoke of government’s efforts at reviving the primary and secondary health care systems, which, according to him, has reduced the number of patients visiting the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.
Giving an insight into the facility, the Secretary of the foundation and the Chief Medical Director, Dr Udeme Akpan, said “Our objective is to eradicate poverty among the rural dwellers, reduce maternal and infant morbidity and mortality and increase life expectancy by reducing the rate of avoidable deaths and deaths from preventable diseases. The facility is made up of multiple consulting rooms; a well-equipped theatre; 25 bed spaces; an eye section; a state-of-the-art laboratory; a well furnished 4-Unit staff quarters; canteen and ample parking space.”
He further explained that “Grace Hospital is strategically located at the confluence of Etim Ekpo, Ukanafun, Abak and Oruk Anam. Ika is just a shouting distance from its location.”
Highpoint of the event was the presentation of awards to Governor Emmanuel; his Deputy, Mr. Moses Ekpo; Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Barrister Onofiok Luke; Senator Bassey Albert Akpan; State PDP Chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo; Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang; Senator Emmanuel Ibok-Essien; former Commissioner for Information, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, among others for identifying with the humanitarian project of the foundation.
