EKET COMMUNITY TREK FOR MBONG, AS FUNERAL PROCESS COMMENCES

An unprecedented endurance trek by sports loving friends and associates took place on Saturday in Eket in memory of the ideals of the sports loving departed icon, Late Mbong Okon Mbong.


The exercise which commenced from the Eket township stadium, saw the participants who spotted white t-shirts with the inscription “ Eket Endurance Trek 4 Mbong”, marching through some major streets of the oil city.

The exercise climaxed with aerobics later at the No 70 Atabong Road family compound of the deceased and the team was received by a brother of the deceased, ObongIwaad Emman Mbong who appreciated them for the show of support.

Meanwhile, all is now set for the formal commencement of funeral rites of the Late Obong Mbong Okon Mbong with the opening of mourning house Sunday, November 5, at the family compound of the deceased.

Obong Mbong also known as the Mandela of Eket, founded and pioneered the leadership of the apex socio –cultural organization for youths in Eket federal constituency, Afigh Iwaad Ekid.

A statement from the family of Okon Mbong Akpanette, signed by ObongIwaad Emman Mbong says, the remains of the pioneer deputy Chairman of the State PDP will be interred after a Funeral service slated for November 11, 2017 at the Eket local government Council Secretariat Ground to be conducted by the Apostolic Church, Field Temple Assembly, Eket by 10am.

A service of songs holds at the Apostolic Church, Field temple, along Udofa Street, Eket on Wednesday November 8 by 6pm, while a novelty football match is expected earlier on Tuesday November 7 at the Qua Iboe Primary School, Eket-Oron road by 4pm.
The Late Obong Mbong is survived by a wife, six children and a host of numerous relatives.
