AKWA IBOM ON THE SPOTLIGHT OF GLOBAL OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY

The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has hinted that Akwa Ibom State has been put on the spotlight in the global oil and gas industry with the showcasing of Akwa Ibom Oil and Gas Training and Research Centre.
The Governor gave the hint when he performed the introduction of the oil and gas training and research centre located at Ibom E-library to major stakeholders and executives in the oil and gas industry around the globe.
Represented by Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, the Governor said with the rich content of the courses to be offered at the centre, major operators in the oil and gas sector should take advantage of the centre to train their personnel.
Governor Udom Emmanuel stressed that Akwa Ibom State being the largest producer of oil and gas in the country will key into the training programme, as the government intends to sponsor some youths of the State as part of its empowerment agenda.
He commended Halliburton Operations Nigeria Limited for collaborating with the State Government to establish the centre and called for more collaboration with major players in the oil and gas industry.
He urged the oil and gas firms to operate within the ambits of local content laws for the safety of the Nigerian territory and the benefit of the citizenry.
The Vice President and Managing Director of Halliburton Nigeria, Mr. Henry Oki in his welcome address thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for the support and partnership in establishing the centre which will save our people from the burden of traveling abroad for further training in the sector.
On his part, the Chief Operating Officer, Upstream, NNPC, Mr. Bello Rabiu expressed gratitude to the State Governor for the partnership which will foster human capacity development in the oil and gas industry.
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Prof. Nse Essien applauded Halliburton for partnering the State Government in setting up the centre.
He thanked the State Governor and Secretary to the State Government for being responsive to the needs of the critical sectors of our economy and for supporting the Ministry in its programmes with a view to making the State a science and technology hub.
A keynote address was presented by the Executive Secretary of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Engr. Simbi Wabote while the Group Managing Director, Hobark Group of Companies, Engr. Obi Okoroafor also presented a goodwill message.
The introduction ceremony featured inspection of equipment and machines meant for practical training at the centre by the Governor, stakeholders and executives of the oil and gas industry.
The Akwa Ibom Oil and Gas Training and Research Centre which is the first oil and gas training centre in Nigeria that is fully-equipped with oil field tools will offer basic, standard and advance courses in field development, drilling, completions, well intervention and digital technology. The centre is open to both local and international trainees.
