Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Mrs. Charity Idio as Chairman, State Technical Schools Board. Her nomination was confirmed today during plenary by the lawmakers.

The confirmation was sequel to the adoption of the report of the House Committee on Justice, Judiciary, Human rights and Public petitions submitted by the Chairman, Hon. Aniefiok Dennis. It will be recalled that Governor Udom Emmanuel had forwarded the name of nominee, Dr. Charity Idio to the House of Assembly for ratification and as Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Technical Schools Board following the demise of occupant of the office, Late Barr. Comfort Etuk, whose remains had since been laid to rest.
Submitting his report, Barr. Dennis said his committee found the nominee as a person of proven integrity, saying she will add value to the State Technical Schools Board. Dennis disclosed that no adverse report was received on the nominee, and urged the House to confirm her for the job. The House had dissolved into the committee of the whole to consider the report of the committee.

The report reads in part “At its sitting on Thursday, July 27,2017, the House received a message from the Governor as contained in his letter GHU/AKS /S/104/VOL. 6/797 of 20th July, specifically requesting for the confirmation of appointment of the Chairman into State Technical Schools Board, Akwa Ibom State. The message was deliberated upon and subsequently referred to the House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petitions, in line with the practice and procedure of the House and to report back to the House within one month”.
“The committee invited the nominee for screening with her resume` and other relevant documents. In conducting the screening, the 1999 constitution as amended and on other relevant documents. The nominee was also interviewed on a wide-range of intellectual issues”.

Motion for the ratification of the nominees appointment was moved by the House Leader, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan and Seconded by the Deputy Leader, Rt. Hon. Barr Ime Okon.
Meanwhile, the House has adjourned plenary to Friday 22nd September 2017.
