The Nigeria Institution of Civil Engineering, NICE, a division of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, in 2015 instituted the Annual Engr( Rev) Etteh Distinguished Lecture Series in honour of their icon, Engr Etteh Ikpong Ikpong Etteh for his pioneering role and immense contribution to the civil engineering industry in Nigeria.

Before Engr Etteh and his friend, the late Lawrenceu Arokodare founded Etteh Aro and Partners in 1970, structural and civil engineering designs and consutancy were handled by foreign firms, the most prominent of them Ovie Arup. On graduation from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, both of them worked with the same Ovie Arup to gain experience.

Engr Etteh later went to the United Kingdom for further studies, where he bagged a Masters degree ( Highways) in 1969 and a second Masters degree ( Bridges) in 1973, from the University of Surrey.

Etteh Aro and Partners’ break, however, came earlier with an inaugural consultancy project of the rehabilitation of the Benin/Asaba road. From there, the firm went on to become one of the foremost firms of civil and structural engineering designs and consutancy in Nigeria. Among its major projects are the Ibom Hall, Uyo, Nigeria Institute of International Affairs, C& C Towers, the East West Road, Stallion House, NDDC Headquarters, WAEC new Headquarters, Lagos and the Second Niger bridge.
