As part of their activities to commemorate the 2018 World Blood Donor Day, Members of De Norsemen KClub Incorporated (DNKI) Akwa Ibom State Chapter; on Thursday 14 June, 2018; made free blood donations to Immanuel General Hospital, Eket.
In his Address, the Guv’nor DNKI, Akwa Ibom State Chapter; Dr. David Umoh stated tha14th June is a day set aside globally to celebrate and thank voluntary and free blood donors, for their life saving gestures and to raise the awareness for regular blood donations which he said would ensure quality, safety and availability of blood and blood products.
“Today, De Norsemen KClub Incorporated and her members are here in Immanuel General Hospital to Mark the World Blood Donor Day 2018. We are here for someone else, we are here to give blood, we are here to share life. Every few seconds, someone, somewhere needs blood and we are here to give that gift of life.” He said.
Dr. Umoh noted that in carrying out the voluntary and non-remunerated blood donations, it is their belief that patients suffering from life threatening conditions will live longer, with a higher quality of life, adding that patients with complex medical and surgical procedures, emergency response, as well as maternal and child care; would also be saved through this life saving gesture, even as he called on medically fit persons who are yet to donate to start giving blood and save lives.
The International Organising Secretary of De Norsemen KClub Incorporated; Dr. Bassey Bassey who said that in line with the tenets of the organization, the voluntary and free blood donation by members is another way of giving back to the society, also stated that apart from making blood readily available for those in need, donating blood reduce the risk of liver diseases, discharge of excess iron, reduced risk of cancer and refreshes the blood.
The Secretary, Immanuel General Hospital; Mrs Esther Jack, who stood in for the Chief Medical Director, expressed gratitude to De Norsemen KClub for choosing the Hospital as a beneficiary of the free blood donation. She lauded the group’s effort saying it would go a long way to enhance the treatment and recovery period for patients.
Also Speaking at the event, The Deputy Director, Laboratory Services, Immanuel General Hospital, Eket; Mr. Chris Akaka said the management of the health establishment is thankful and that the blood donated would go a long way to reduce cost and ultimately save lives.
In another Development, De Norsemen KClub Incorporated, Akwa Ibom State Chapter has donated the Nigerian National flag and the Nigerian Police Flag to Eket Division, of the Nigerian Police. This they say is in fulfilment of their civic responsibility. The flag was presented by the Guv’nor, DNKI Akwa Ibom Chapter; Dr. David Umoh to the Divisional Police Officer, who was represented by the Station Officer; ASP Sunday Edom.
