EPHRAIM_INYANG… Refuses Compensations

The Akwa Ibom State Government, through the Ministry of Works, has demolished hundreds of illegal structures that were erected along Etinan-Ndon Eyo Road so as to make way for the ongoing construction of the road.

Supervising the demolition, the Commissioner for Works, Akparawa Ephraim Inyang-Eyen, said the structures had to be pulled down since they were illegal properties erected overnight after Government had already visited, inspected the affected area to ascertain genuine properties.

Akparawa Inyang-Eyen explained that the State Government had announced that illegal properties along Ekpene Ukpa, Awa Ntong, Mbioto, Awa Iman, Ikot Akpa Ishiet to Mkpok be pulled down.

According to him, “if Government should pay compensations to illegal properties erected on the right of way, the actual money budgeted for the construction work will not meet the purpose it was meant for.”

The Works Commissioner, who reiterated Government commitment to the successful completion of all its Road Projects, said the State Government will pay compensations to owners of genuine properties affected by the construction work.

Members of the demolition delegation included the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Mr. Ifreke Ekpa, Directors in the Ministry and some contractors handling the Road Project.
