Th e Ibom Hotel and Golf Course in Uyo has been struck by a severe windstorm, leaving behind destruction in its wake.

The unfortunate incident, which occurred in the evening hours of Wednesday, May 1, 2024, led to the falling of several trees within the hotel, with the golf course being the worst hit.

Confirming the incidence, Mr. Emmanuel Ekong, the Chief Executive Officer of Equatorial Parks and Premises Ltd, the maintainers of Ibom Golf Course, said, “We had a very unfortunate natural disaster on Wednesday evening at the Hotel and Golf Course. A very strong wind blew over the area and brought down about 100 trees.

It was also gathered that despite some of the trees falling on roofs and others on right-of-ways, no injuries or loss of life were recorded.

The storm may have passed, but the mess it has left behind is quite evident. According to Mr. Ekong, “We are almost overwhelmed by the extent of work required to clear the mess, but we are on it.

Considering the enormity of crosscutting the fallen trees and evacuating the debris to be undertaken, extra machines and manpower will be required. There is, therefore, an urgent need for the Akwa Ibom State Government, corporate organizations, and sports enthusiasts to step in and help fast-track the ongoing clearing work.
