Unpaid Salary: A’Ibom Female Teacher Goes Naked

A pathetic scene ensued Monday at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat when a woman in her middle age arrived the State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB) looking normal but shocked the workers and other visitors when she began to remove her clothes in the full glare of everyone.
The woman who stripped to her under pants drove into the secretariat in a motor cycle, parked it somewhere and began to undress herself.
She then lifted up her certificates and identity card and kept shouting on the top her voice to be paid her salary
“ I am not mad. I want SUBEB to pay me my salary. Here are my documents. I am not a fake staff, I am real, SUBEB should pay me my salary’
A SUBEB official told this Reporter that initially people thought she was mad but after they listened carefully to her, they discovered that she was normal. However, the woman did not get any help from the authorities of SUBEB
The Sensor investigation reveals that some primary school teachers in the state have not been paid their salaries since December 2014.
We also gathered that Primary school teachers in the state have not being paid their leave grant since 2013 and promotion arrears have not being paid since 2011. Also, the state government we gathered has not implemented 7.5% salary increase agreed between Labour Unions and the state government
It will be recalled that for upwards of two years teachers in Akwa Ibom state employ have contended with the delay or non payment of their salaries
In some cases, they were said to have problems with the verification of their data or irregularity in their names.
Officials in Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration who spoke on the matter maintain that teachers and civil servants in the state with such fate were being screened to deal with all of the issues before they are paid
The woman who stripped naked yesterday in the full glare of the public according to observers want the government to see the desperation of the teachers affected over the unpaid salaries and called on government to address the problem to safe the teachers from severe hardship.
