…As Udom Begs For Calm, Conducts Hitch-Free State PDP Congress

Governor Udom Emmanuel, worried by the fuel scarcity occasioned by NUPENG/PENGASSAN strike over some labour issues with Universal Energy and the Domino effect it may potentially have on productivity and the socio-economic fortunes of the state, has intervened over the impasse.

Following the successful intervention, NUPENG/PENGASSAN has agreed to end the strike immediately and begin to lift fuel to petrol stations.
A media state signed the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, said “Government has, therefore, directed all petrol stations to resume selling petrol to consumers within 72 hours, maintaining that any petrol station that hoards petrol or engages in unwholesome activities will be sealed up or out- rightly demolished and the owners prosecuted for obstructing the free flow of economic activities.”

“Government expresses regrets over the suffering the good people of the state went through during the strike and appeals for calm and understanding.”

Meanwhile, the Governor has applauded the people of the State for the peaceful and transparent conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party Chapter Congress held across the thirty one Local Government Areas of the state.
Governor Emmanuel who spoke at ONNA Local Government Area after his participation in the election of the Chapter Executive and Delegates to the forthcoming state congress commended the maturity exhibited by the people and described it as a testimony of their love for the party and commitment to attainment of good governance.

The Governor lauded Officials of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) and National Officers of the party who were on ground to monitor the exercise and sued for a replication of such transparency in the forthcoming State Congress.
The Chairman Ward and Chapter Congresses for Akwa Ibom State, Senator Umar Tsauri, lauded the peaceful exercise acknowledging that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is indeed at home in Akwa Ibom State. He congratulated the state Governor for the harmony experienced in the party at the state level.

The Commissioner for Works Mr. Ephraim Inyang who was the Returning Officer at the ONNA Local Government congress said option A4 remains the most credible and transparent way of electing people into positions of authority.

Governor Emmanuel participated in the Congress alongside his wife, Martha, Federal House of Representatives Member for ONNA Federal Constituency Mrs. Owoidighe Ekpoattai, ONNA House of Assembly member, Otuekong Nse Essien, Transition Committee Chairman for the Area, Mr. Ufot Akpan and other Political Stakeholders of the area.
