… Harps on promotion of Sports for Social Good
Pastor Umo Eno, the leading Akwa Ibom State 2023 gubernatorial aspirant has lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for his committed investments in sports development in the state.
Pastor Eno made the commendation while taking the kick off at the final match of Pastor Umo Eno Easter unity cup held at West Itam Sports Centre.
He noted that the different trophies won under the Gov Udom Emmanuel led administration including the Federation Cup in 2015, Aiteo Cup in 2017 and the 2020/21 NPFL title all by Akwa United and the promotion of Dakkada FC in 2018/2019, are testaments of good leadership and commitment to sports development.
Pastor Eno who is the immediate past Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources recalled that Akwa United played confederation cup for the first time within the current administration, and above all, won the Nigeria professional football League last year after 25 years.
The seasoned entrepreneur appreciated the organizers for putting together the tournament in his honour, adding that sports remains one of the best platforms to build unity and create employment which according to him must continually be encouraged.
He stated that a football academy is necessary in the state to groom young talents and improve on the strides of the Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration.
In a chat with this reporter, the tournament initiator, Mr. John Ekpenyong said the organising committee decided to host the competition in honour of Pastor Umo Eno as an avenue to unite more delegates and even none delegates in his favour adding that Pastor Eno is the most competent and dependable aspirant in the forthcoming 2023 governorship elections.
Also speaking, the Akwa Ibom State Chairman, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria ( SWAN), Comrade Emmanuel Akpan who corroborated the fact that the tournament was organized to foster unity amongst Akwa Ibom youths, said they decided to host the competition in honour of Pastor Umo Eno because he is very passionate about youths and their development.
The SWAN Chairman noted that going by his experience, expertise and contribution Pastor Umo Eno is the best choice for the state as Governor.
The final match was between OLEGACY FC of Oron and Dynamic FC of Uyo, and Dynamic FC emerged champions after defeating OLEGACY 1 -0 .
