UDOM PLAYING POLITICS WITH PENSIONERS – A’IBOM NLC

ukpong
Leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has told Governor Udom Emmanuel to pay pensioners in the state their entitlements rather than embark on needless politics.

The State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Etim Ukpong, stated this recently in Uyo during a solidarity march in honour of two workers of the Nasarawa state Civil Service shot dead by an officer of the Nigerian Police Force while embarking on a protest visit to the national leaders of NLC.

The labour leader said that the State Government should stop the ding dong song of paying workers salaries alone while the pensioners are sent to their early graves in their numbers.

He said that the government has no point telling the world that workers have been paid up to date while those that have labored and retired are suffering and dying.

Ukpong noted that the state government is only playing politics with the salary issues and urged them not to separate it with the money owed pensioners.

It would be recalled that the State Governor had in recent interview in the media, declared that the state government is not owing workers even when staff in some local government areas in the state have been owed more than four month salaries.

On the solidarity march held at the NLC State Secretariat, members of the union said that the march was to protest police insensitivity that led to the death of their colleagues.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has assured the organized labour that the policemen who shot the two workers to death during rally in Nasarawa State would be brought to justice.

Idris stated this when the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC and the Trade Union Congress, TUC, led a delegation to his office. He assured that the culprits would be identified and brought to justice.
