Governor Udom Emmanuel, through his Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr Iniobong Essien, has appreciated the people of the state for keying into the monthly sanitation exercise.
the State Governor stated this while monitoring the February edition of the Sanitation Exercise in Uyo metropolis and its environs.
While monitoring the exercise in Idu Uruan, Nwaniba Road, IBB Way and the State Secretariat Complex, the Governor lauded residents of the areas for seeing the need to keep their environment clean, according to him, “though there was no restriction of movement in this month’s sanitation exercise due to the Joint Matriculation Examination, residents still voluntarily went out for the sanitation. This is an indication that they are now conscious of the monthly exercise.”
He particularly commended residents of the 50-Unit Housing Estate, Idu Uruan, for keying into the vision of his administration in keeping the state clean and beautiful.
Governor Emmanuel, who promised to provide the residents with five wheel-barrows and 10 shovels to assist in their commitment to clean the environment, assured that all the wastes generated from the exercise will be properly evacuated.
He appealed to the residents of the state to desist from dumping refuse inside gutters and other waterways but use the receptacles provided by the state government.
He said “the Ministry of Environment is embarking on massive evacuation of gutters in preparation for the raining season so as to ensure free flow of water.
Responding on behalf of residents of 50-Unit Housing Estate, the Chairman of the estate, Joseph Utin, thanked the Governor for job well-done by monitoring the exercise to ensure compliance.
He said the people of the area decided to compliment government’s effort in removing wastes and dirt from the gutters for a clean environment
