UDOM EXTOLS JUDICIARY FOR SAFEGUARDING DEMOCRACY

Governor Udom Emmanuel has extolled the Judiciary for upholding the principles of the Rule of Law and safeguarding democracy in the country.
The State Governor gave the commendation at a special Gala Night organized at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo in honour of the Justice Sector Reform Teams visiting the state for a three – day Conference.
Governor Emmanuel, while welcoming the Team led by the Solicitor General of the Federation, Prof. Taiwo Abiogun applauded the Judiciary for maintaining the Temple of Justice as the bastion of hope for the common man and commended the Supreme Court for not compromising Justice irrespective of political persuasions.
He thanked the team for the choice of the state for the meeting which is the first to be convened in the South-South region urging them to savour the rich natural ambience of the state with hospitable people and fantastic cuisine and expressed hope that their meeting would further boost the interpretation of law and its application for efficient service delivery.
The Solicitor General of the Federation, Prof Taiwo Abiogun expressed delight at the warmth reception accorded them and described his visit as a homecoming having been in the state during his National Youth Service assignment at ST. Francis College, Ikot Ataku Eket in 1980.
He said he is appreciative of the depth of Akwa Ibom hospitality, resilience and the loyalty of an Akwa Ibom person to friendship and thanked the Governor for the honour done him and his entourage.
The Solicitor General of the Federation used the occasion to laud the collaboration of states in the reforms of the Country’s statutes and codes to meet the expected standard.
Setting the Tone for the event, the State Chief Judge , Justice Stephen Okon said the Reform Team started in the country 17yrs ago to appraise justice delivery system in the country and the collaboration of various stakeholders in the judicial process.
The event which was attended by Judges, Magistrates, Legal Luminaries, Academia and Security Agencies across the country featured cultural performance by Twinkling stars, Ekemini Cultural Troupe. Choreography by Seed Royal Squad, Pla let , Violin Session and Comedy while Real Brass Band spiced the moment with a variety of tunes.
