“It is an irrevocable fact that Senator Godswill Akpabio is on a fast descent into political oblivion, due only to his actions and inactions. Today, after the results of the units started trickling in, the outgoing Senator for Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Senator Godswill Akpabio while observing collation of results at the INEC office in Essien Udim, resorted to physically manhandling the INEC Electoral officer for the Local Government and the PDP chapter Chairman. The electoral officer’s offense was his insistence on the confirmation of the total number of accredited voters using the smart card reader and his punishment was a set of hot double slaps ‘Ufia itah’, which threw the officer to the ground. The chapter chairman was a luckier as he received a punch on the face and a push before being handed over to his aides for finishing touches. The Senator was accompanied by 83 policemen, countless soldiers and an amounted personnel carrier,” Comrade Ini Ememobong, the state spokesperson of the PDP said.
“Recall that on the night of Saturday 23rd February, 2019 when Senator Akpabio sought to introduce results from some units in Essien Udim where elections did not hold and he was resisted by the Deputy State Chairman of the PDP, Hon. Sunyiekekere Inokon. He descended on Hon. Inokon and dealt him several blows before leaving him to his security aides.”
“Since the commencement of his journey to political wilderness, Senator Akpabio has exhibited uncommon thuggishness , to the surprise of onlookers.”
“As a party, we strongly condemn such ignoble actions which are clearly straw clutching antics of a drawing man. No matter the issue, the Senator ought not to resort to physical assault of the Electoral officer, who’s right to dignity of human person, is guaranteed by the constitution.”
“We call on the Inspector General to order the immediate arrest and prosecution of Senator Godswill Akpabio for assault and electoral offenses. In fact, the Senator should be quarantined from the public space. We advise other people who may have contact with the outgoing senator to prepare themselves for self defense against the Senator.”
