SEARCH FOR YOUNG SCIENTIST BEGINS IN A’IBOM

The Ministry of Science and Technology has commenced the search for a young scientist that will represent the State in next year’s 774 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award in Abuja.

The process began at the E- library, Uyo with two selected Schools from each Local Government Area of the State presenting students for a special test conducted in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

The test which is moderated by Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN), Akwa Ibom Chapter is meant to select ten best performing students who will slug it out Wednesday this week in another test that the best all round student will be selected to represent the State in the national selection exercise billed for November 22, 2018 in Abuja.

The best three young scientists who emerge from the national selection exercise will be presented to the President, Mohammadu Buhari next year for Presidential Awards.

Addressing the students during the exercise, the Head of Science Promotion in the Ministry of Science and Technology, Mrs. Mfon Ukut who represented the Commissioner advised the students to show utmost devotion to the exercise as it is aimed at eliciting the best in them.

She said the winners do not only stand the chances of winning fantastic prizes but will bring glory to the State.

In separate interviews, three of the participating students, Gabriel Peter, an SS2 Student of Community Secondary Commercial School, Ifiayong Usuk, Patience Moses of Northern Annang Secondary Commercial School, Utu Etim Ekpo and Oboh Effiong of Presbyterian Senior Science School, Ididep, both SS3 students said they were excited to participate in the test.

They expressed their preparedness to work harder if they are fortunate to emerge winners to represent the State well so as to win laurels for the State and thanked the State Government for facilitating the exercise.
