The Executive Director of Policy Alert, Tijah Bolton-Akpan, has called for massive re-injection of capital into the economy to aid curb the effect of the current recession in the country.
Bolton-Akpan, who made the call today in an interview with an Uyo-based radio station, Inspiration FM, also called for the reduction of the cost of governance at all tiers of government, stressing that funds currently used for operational costs should be channeled into sectors of the the economy that will empower citizens at the bottom of the economic pyramid, who according to him, have always been in a recession. wellbeing of the citizenry.
He also noted that falling oil prices, declining production and the constriction of the economy as a result of the Covid19 pandemic have been blamed for the current recession. Decrying the high rate of unemployment in the country, the economic governance advocate called for creation of more jobs through direct labour interventions and massive infrastructure projects for the increasing unemployed youths in Nigeria.
