POLITICAL INCLUSION: EFET CALLS FOR UNITY OF PURPOSE AMONGST OBOLO PEOPLE

By Our Reporter

A Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom State Law Reform Commission, Chief Ufikairo Efet, has called on members of the Eastern Obolo Local Government Chapter of the Association of Former Elected Councillors (AFECO) to strive for unity of purpose for the development and progress of the area.

Chief Efet gave the call on Tuesday when members of AFECO paid him a courtesy call at the Commission, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo.
“The problem of our area has always been due to the lack of unity of purpose. If you work as a team, with sincerity and honest intention, you will detect the direction of politics and development in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area,” he maintained.

While assuring members of the group that he will communicate all their requests to the Governor, he reminded the group of the strong government presence in Eastern Obolo through infrastructural development including the construction of 8.5Km Okorete-Elite-Amadaka-Kampa Road and Ayama Road as well as Owen Ukafia Crescent brought about by the Udom Emmanuel-led administration.

He appealed to the people of the area to take advantage of the ample career opportunities made possible by the present administration as well as in the civil service and rise through the ranks, saying “the reason why we do not have any Permanent Secretary from Eastern Obolo is because we do not have our people at the top level of civil service.”

Speaking earlier, the leader of the group, Hon. Lambert Joshua, thanked Chief Efet for the warm reception and hospitality and said his “appointment into the Law Reform Commission by Governor Udom Emmanuel is a plus to the people of the area.”

Hon. Joshua called for engagement of members of AFECO in the Akwa Ibom project and also used the opportunity to appeal to stakeholders and opinion leaders of the area to come together for the development and progress of Eastern Obolo.

“In the last elections, members this Association held sway in their respective Units and Wards and delivered 99% votes and ensured victory for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP). Association like this in a political system is a forum of no mean repute. It comprises highly and divinely selected people by God to help in directing, deciding, maintaining and controlling as well as in discussion and provision of solution to problems itching our society. We are only out of office, not retired, not tired,” he maintained.

Like Oliver Twist, he appealed to Governor Emmanuel to give the area more, appoint more of its people into leadership position and give lasting and enduring solution to the plight of the displaced people of Amazaba who fled their ancestral home.
