Philanthropist and Federal House of Representatives candidate for Ikono/INI Federal Constituency on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, has condemned vehemently the recent actions by men of the Nigerian Police, whom he accused of aiding the nefarious act on the state legislature by members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Speaking with journalists in Ndiya, Ikono Local Government Area, shortly after a consultation visit to Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs and Conference of Village Heads, the philanthropist frowned at the action of the five sacked lawmakers, saying the Assemblymen together with their sponsors were agents of destruction to Nigeria’s nascent democratic.
He called on Nigerians, particularly the people of Akwa Ibom, to stand firm and fight the rascality and high-handedness of the “security agencies” against the democratic institution, saying the acts were complete violations of Nigeria’s democratic culture.
Obong Ukpong-Udo, who also expressed shock and disbelief over the alleged conspiracy, described the developments as aberrations, unconstitutional and against the fundamentals of Akwa Ibom forebears.
“This is an illegal action and we are extremely surprised that under democracy, five out of 26 members could be given this kind of unimpeded access with security to try to thwart democracy. Akwa Ibom people and indeed Nigerians must say no to agents of destructions whose aims are to shackle the rights of the citizens to the caprices of a few,” he said.
Speaking further, Obong Ukpong-Udo said “We are aware that the unfortunate incident at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly is just one of the antics of the APC to forcefully takeover the state. That act was a direct attack on our fledgling democracy but I wish to inform them that they have failed and they will continue to fail. The people of Ikono/INI Federal Constituency condemn this crass and impudent exhibition of uncivilized conducts.
