OYEYEMI WANTS UPGRADE OF FRSC ACADEMY TO DEGREE AWARDING INSTITUTION


Mr Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has solicited the support of the Education Ministry for the upgrade of the FRSC academy in Udi, Enugu State to a degree awarding institution.
Oyeyemi was speaking in Abuja on Thursday, when he led other management team of the corps on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu in his office.
He said that he had met with the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, who had allowed the school to be affiliated with the Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri.
He added that the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC) had been developing the curriculum for the institution as a prerequisite for the upgrading.
“We have come for a formal discussion with the ministry in respect of FRSC academy in Udi, Enugu state and its training school in Jos.
“We are not asking for funding, but for the upgrading of the schools to a degree awarding institutions, and we believe with the support of the minister, we can achieve this.’’
Responding, the minister assured the management of FRSC of his support and assistance towards the realisation of their demand.
Adamu said that directors in the ministry would work closely with the FRSC to give all necessary assistance for the upgrade.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the FRSC management had met with the NUC over the affiliation process of the institutions.
The corps marshal sometimes in May, 2017, sought FUTO’s consent to start awarding post graduate diplomas.
