As Nigeria marks her 56th Independence anniversary, Governor Udom Emmanuel has advocated the institutionalization of a viable economic framework that would grow the economy and sustain the people.
Governor Emmanuel made the advocacy while fielding questions from Government House Correspondents at Ibom International Airport on his arrival from an official trip to Abuja.
He said that the desire for a robust economy is on the front burner of every citizen in the country given the economic challenges confronting the Nation and that Nigeria has not fared well even in her 56 years of existence.
According to him, “the planners jettisoned priorities to other non sectors of the economy such as Agriculture to generate wealth by exporting the produce rather than importing finished products from other countries only to complain of the flexible window of the exchange rate and unemployment in the country.”
Mr. Emmanuel therefore challenged every Nigerian to exhibit patriotic zeal towards redeeming the country from its present situation saying that the lessons gained from the present economic predicament should drive every stakeholder to exploit abundant natural resources to create wealth for sustainability.
He reiterated his determination to woo investors to the state to boost the economy and explain that when all hands are on deck towards revitalizing the economy, Nigeria would regain its pride of place as the giant of Africa.
Governor Emmanuel advised Nigerians not to be despaired by the gloomy economic situation in the country but should checkmate their desire for consumption of foreign goods in order not to deplete the country’s foreign reserve.
He maintained that a stable economy where justice prevails make governance easy for the government and the citizens to coexist in the society.
Governor Emmanuel therefore wished President Mohammadu Buhari and Nigerians a happy anniversary.
