N250K UP FOR GRABS IN OPENGOV HACKATHON UYO 2019


A non-governmental organization working for improved development outcomes
in economic governance, environment and community livelihoods, Policy Alert,
has announced that its Open Gov Hackathon 2019 will hold on 21-22 November,
2019 in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the organisation’s
Programme Officer (Anti-corruption and governance reforms) Faith Paulinus in
Uyo this morning. Themed “Combating corruption through open budgets”, the
hackathon is open to software developers, technology enthusiasts, data scientists, civil society activists, policy experts and others between the ages of 18 and 35 who are passionate about using technology to improve governance. It will generate innovative, viable and scalable solutions addressing issues of
transparency, accountability and citizens’ participation in the state’s budget
process.

Organised in partnership with Actionaid Nigeria through its Supporting Citizens
Resistance against the Prevalence of Corruption (SCRAP-C) project, the 24-hour
event will commence by 4pm, 21 st November and end by 4pm, 22 nd November, 2019 at HUBITZ, 69 Enwe Street, Uyo. Other partners include Start Innovation Hub, Open Government Partnership (OGP) Nigeria and The Roothub.

The statement also notes that the wining team will receive a seed fund of two
hundred and fifty thousand Naira only (NGN250,000.00) to support the development of their idea. Winning teams will also be eligible to pitch their ideas
before a team of Policy Alert’s international partners during a Demo Day in December.
