The chairman-elect of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, Mr Ekanem Brown has restated his administration’s blue print for the area with regards to significant reduction of unemployment. Brown who spoke with the press in Uyo after receiving his Certificate of Return at AKISIEC headquarters, expressed concern over the rate of unemployment in Mkpat Enin, said he will specially tackle it even as he intends to bring his experience to bare.
“I have been an employer of labour and so I know how to create jobs. Mkpat Enin people will benefit immensely from this administration as I will bring my wealth of experience in job creation to bare”, he said.
While harping on solutions to the social and economic challenges of Mkpat Enin, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) standard bearer for the just concluded Local Government Chairmanship poll in Mkpat Enin, proposed a strategic approach to addressing the bane of development in the Local Government Area. He said he had earlier made steps to identify the needs of the people in view to take appropriate measures to meet them. In his words, “we must first of all adopt the strategy of identifying our problems to be able to proffer the right solutions. This we have done during the campaigns and ward tour and we are set to kick-start our all round development.”
In the spirit of unity for the general good of Mkpat Enin which Brown’s team is said to preach from campaign period, the Chairman-elect informed that so far, some opposition candidates who were unsuccessful at the December 2 polls have congratulated him and accepted to work together for the purpose of the common good of the people. In his opinion, the gesture by the opposition candidates has a divine undertone and thus should be taken seriously.
“I’ve been receiving calls from the opposition councillorship candidates that they want to be carried along. They have congratulated me, so you see, there is a divine connotation to it and we should not take it for granted”, he said, while encouraging stakeholders and people of the area not to let go of the spirit of unity. “Let us remain focused and not be distracted.”
Ekanem who is the youngest to ever serve as Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, charged all his supporters to invest their time and “be patient as all parties will benefit when the time for reaping sets in”. He also commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for achieving the most peaceful election in recent times in the state. He equally expressed appreciation to his party, the PDP, stakeholders and all supporters. He also thanked those who did not vote for him and promised to carry all Mkpat Enin sons and daughters along, saying that “elections are over, it is time for development.”
Similarly, his wife, Mrs Ima-abasi Ekanem Brown also thanked those who stood by her husband in the build up to the poll till the actual election.
