Of all the schools that represented Akwa Ibom State in the just concluded Maltina National Schools Sports Championship, Ibeno Local Government Contingent, drawn from Secondary Grammar School, Upenekang, has distinguished itself with six Gold, one Silver and one Bronze medals.
The young champions were received and treated to a sumptuous breakfast on Saturday by a Member of the Akwa Ibom State Technical Schools Board, Hon. Henry Ekpe-Nko, and his wife, Mrs. Grace Ekpe-Nko, Eket Senatorial District Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The young champions, who will be representing Nigeria at the International Championship in China, are Debora Slomong Nko (Gold in High Jump and Bronze in Long Jump), Celestina Stephen (Gold in Javelin), Gideon David (Silver in 400M Boys), Grace Martins (Gold in 4x100M), Ruth Martin (Gold in 4x100M), Favour Emmanuel (Gold in 4x100M) and Esther Daniel (Gold in 4x100M).
The honour and celebration will not be complete without giving kudos to their parents, the Principal of Secondary Grammar School, their Game Masters and specifically to their Coach, Mr. Effiong Ibok, who also brought the USA-based Imaobong Uko to stardom.
The young champions will be officially received and presented with their medals by the Akwa Ibom State Government next week.
