The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said the Local Government Council Elections that is billed for Saturday, December 2, would be an affirmation ceremony and the confirmation of the predominant choice of the people of the state.

Addressing journalists in Uyo on Thursday on the preparedness of PDP in the election, the Publicity Secretary of the party, Barrister Ini Ememobong, said they have done everything within the ambits of the law for their candidates, who are men and women of high capacity and huge credibility, to win landslide in all the 31 Local Government Areas.

According to him, “We have not left any stone unturned, we have ‘conscientized’ the people, and we made sure that the people we selected were people of high capacity and very huge credibility. We have done everything permitted within the ambits of the law for our candidates to win the elections.”

He said his party’s determination to win was reason the PDP adopted all necessary approaches to campaigning, from the senatorial district to federal constituency down to local government, village, ward and even house to house campaigns to ensure victory.

“It is an open secret that we have won the elections. How do you win? You win by the crowd you saw on ground during our campaigns. So, it is true that we have won. We are going for affirmations. We are going to affirm the crowd we saw at the flag-off; we are going to affirm the crowd we met at the 31 Local Government Areas; we are going to affirm the crowd you saw accompanying our Chairmanship candidates on village-to-village and unit-to-unit tour. They know the election is already won. Elections were over because election is a choice. What is happening is the confirmation of the predominant choice of the people of Akwa Ibom State,” he maintained.

On the reason for such optimism, the Publicity Secretary said the overwhelming record of achievements of the PDP administration in the state would leave the people with no better choice.

Also speaking on the issue of the deployment of 15,000 security personnel to ensure law and order during the exercise, Barrister Ememobong said that only the PDP has consistently been victims of violence by the opposition.

“Violence is the only weapon of the opposition in Akwa Ibom. We have perennially been victims of violence. So, we need the security, but if their plan is to use such to suppress us, we will become human shield to oppose such. You cannot come from the backdoor to win election. You must work hard to be acceptable to the people,” he stressed.

On the Appeal Court ruling of the case between Senator Bassey Albert and Bassey Etim, he said “The Appeal Court judgment is the true confirmation of what happened at the Stadium and for me, that judgment is the punctuation in the very rich history of a man who has always sought to kidnap the legitimate mandate of others.”
