INAUGURATION OF LG EXCO: ONUK CALLS FOR COMMITMENT AND UNITY

 

The Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Etetim E. Onuk has advised members of the Local Government Executive Council to be committed and focused in the discharge of their duties. He made the call on Thursday, during the swearing-in ceremony for Supervisors and Special Advisers, at the Kennedy Ekong Hall, Itu Local Government Secretariat, Mbak Atai.

 

Barr. Onuk called on the newly sworn-In officials not to betray the people trust or their fatherland and to see their appointments as a rare, but important call to service. He charged them to use the opportunity  to write their names in gold. The Itu Council Helmsman said the administration remain committed to the the overall growth of the Local Government and solicited for sustained support from everyone, noting that the rebuilding of Itu remains one of the main focus of the administration and can only be achieved together.

 

“This is our finest hour. Together we will overcome our challenges. We will fulfill our mandate and we will serve our people. Posterity has placed on our shoulders this opportunity to collectively re-write our narratives as a people. God who has been with us this far,  will not abandon us. We shall emerge stronger and our people will have cause to sing and rejoice again.” He said.

 

He thanked the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) for the opportunity offered them to render services to the people, assuring that the Local Government administration will not betray the people’s faith and observed that the Udom led PDP administration has been benevolent to the people of Itu Local Government. Onuk said the people of the County remain grateful for the approvals for the construction of Drainage network at Etaha Itam Market, the construction of Ikpenwe Street – Afaha Ube road and citing of an International fruit market in Itu, also disclosed plans by the State Government to cite an Industrial Park that will house several multinational companies in Itu Local Government Area.

 

A one time Transition Chairman of Itu Local Government Area; Hon. Okon Etim Okon, who spoke at the event; advised the inaugurated Council officials to be loyal to the leadership of the Local Government Council and to uphold the oaths they have sworn to. He wished them a successful tenure.

 

The Leader, Itu Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Barr. Bassey Bassey who gave the vote of thanks, said he was impressed by the large turnout of guest and expressed his gratitude to those who created time to witness the important ceremony. He urged the  Supervisors and Special Assistants to join hands and ensure the ongoing drive towards the remodeling of Itu Local Government becomes a reality, even as he solicited for support and prayers from the people of the area.

 

Those sworn-In as Supervisors are; Mr. Emmanuel Ndanyongmong; Education, Youths and Sports, Mr. Inibehe Akpabio; Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Philip Bassey Tom; Works, Housing and Transport, Dr. Daniel Umoren; Health, Mrs. Itoro Bassey Bassey; Women Affairs, Investment and Cooperative Affairs.

 

Others are; Mr. Daniel Patrick Ebong; Special Adviser on Water Resources and Social Development. Mr. Daniel Edem Archibong; Special Adviser on Boundary and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Aniedi  Offiong Essien; Special Adviser on Urban Renewal, Housing and Special Duties and Mr. Patrick Ekpenyong as the Special Adviser on Political, Legislative and Inter-party Relations.

 

Those who witnessed the swearing-in ceremony include; The Vice Chairman, Itu Local Government Area, Hon. Mrs. Emem Ekpanya and Spouse; Mr. Jerry Ekpanya, Secretary of Council; Prince Sammy Essien, Honourable Councillors, Head of Service Itu Local Government Area; Mr. Cletus Eboh and Engr. Tony James among others
