IBENO FISHING COMMUNITY RAISES ALARM OVER INCESSANT KIDNAPPING BY SEA PIRATES

Barely a week that an alleged pirate kingpin, Austine Ezekiel Agba, who has been terrorizing the fishing community of Ibeno, was arrested in Akwa Ibom, another alleged kidnapping of Mr. John Ana has taken place in the community.
Raising the security alert, Chairman of Ibeno Community Security Officer (CSO) attached to the Nigerian Navy Patrol Team, Mr. Ukwekpo Job, said incident happened on the evening of Friday, July 15, 2016.
Mr. Job, who said the incessant act of kidnapping within the fishing community of Ibeno was becoming worrisome, appealed to government and security agencies to come to the aid of residents of the community.
He said “the act could be a reprisal from the pirate organizations that roam the seas hijacking fishing boats, engines boats and fishermen for ransom. If after the recent arrest was made they are still roaming our waterways and terrorizing our people, it means we are not safe.”
The CSO appealed to government and security agencies to place premium on the life and property of Ibeno people with particular emphasis on the fishing community.
“As law abiding citizen of Akwa Ibom State, we deserve the security of government and every other constitutional rights. The spate of terrorism and kidnapping within the fishing community is very alarming. The goose that lays the golden egg must be protected,” he said.
He said if the situation is not attended to as a matter of urgency, the economy of the state could be affected directly or indirectly.
