The dissolution of Itu and Ukanafun Local Government Transition Committees was necessary to save the Councils from themselves.

Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Political, Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Barrister Ekong Sampson, said this in a chat with newsmen in Uyo,

Barrister Ekong Sampson explained that when a Local Government Transition Committee is found operationally dysfunctional, the Governor could in his wisdom intervene to restore sanity to the system.

The Special Adviser advised Local Government Transition Committees to strive to maintain the peace in their domains. This, he said, is a critical factor in gauging performance.

According to Barrister Ekong Sampson, “any Local Government Council that cannot maintain the peace will have to be saved from itself, in the public interest”.

Barrister Ekong Sampson, speaking on preparation for the conduct local government elections in the State, assured that Governor Udom Emmanuel is a committed democrat and will support the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) to conduct free and fair local government elections in the State.

The Special Adviser on Political Affairs however advised that people clamouring for local government elections should as well devote some energy to identify and encourage capacity in local government administration.

“As a former local government chairman, I understand the enormous challenges in local government administration”, Barrister Sampson said. He therefore urged constituents to promote the emergence of quality hands to pilot the affairs of local government councils.
