After weeks of alleged misconduct, high-handedness, sponsor of petition to agents of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and leaking of government information to operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Akan Okon, State Commissioner for Finance, has finally denied the allegations and claims of being an adversary of doom in the Udom Emmanuel led government.
Okon, while reacting to allegations by Akwa Ibom Conscience for Good Governance, a front line socio-political group in the state, that he was selling and also giving information to EFCC to indict former Governor and Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, said that the allegation was “spurious.”
It could be recalled that the group, in their claim, had said “What then is this so called AKAN OKON doing again, for Governor Udom Emmanuel apart from fraternizing with the agents of APC to sponsor petitions against Senator Godswill Akpabio. There’s nothing hidden under the Sun, Hon Akan Okon releasing the official documents of the past administration to APC agents in order to persecute Senator Godswill Akpabio and caused unnecessary disaffection between Governor Udom Emmanuel and Senator Godswill Akpabio cannot in any way fly. Whatever must have been your intentions, Mr Akan Okon, you have failed and shall continue to fail. In case, you may not know, all your clandestine activities, secret meetings and evil plots have been blown open. We’ll soon pound on you.”
To put paid the group’s allegations and claims, the Commissioner, in a statement in Uyo, said that as an appointee who served in the Godswill Akpabio administration, it was unreasonable for anyone to assume that he would contemplate such misconduct.
In his words: “I served Chief Akpabio’s administration diligently and did not have any record of misconduct. Now I am under an oath of allegiance to Governor Udom Emmanuel, and I have never divulged any information or leaked or caused to be leaked any document so classified as official secrets kept.”
On the alleged Governorship quest of the Commissioner, which the group had said “May be, you think that getting Akpabio jailed will give you Governorship ticket is a blatant lie. If Obong Victor Attah did not send Obong Akpan Isemin to jail and Governor Godswill Akpabio did not send Obong Victor Attah to jail, your efforts to implicate and jail Senator Godswill Akpabio shall be in vain,” he neither gave explanation nor denied it.
Reacting to the Commissioner’s position, the group said “Mr. Akan Okon’s comment is a loud cry over spilt milk. We have evidence of our claims and we will make it public soon.”
