The notion of Akwa Ibom being a place where excellence in professionalism are born has again been confirmed by the nomination of one of its sons, Obong Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo, for the prestigious Nigeria Safety Award for Excellence Hall of Fame (9jaSAFE) 2017.
The 9jaSAFE Award is Nigeria’s first ever-independent award that recognizes outstanding Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) initiative.
Obong Ukpong-Udo, the Regional QHSE Manager of Intels Nigeria Limited and political leader of Ikono Local Government Area, was approved for recognition for the 3rd Edition of 9jaSAFE, having met set criteria, by friends, professional colleagues and the general public for his work in raising and promoting safety consciousness within and outside Nigeria.
A letter to the nominee says, “Please note that you were nominated for the award by friends, professional colleagues and the general public. This year, 180 individuals were nominated for this category from 15 states of the federation and 15 nominees were shortlisted from this lot. The Award Committee deemed you one of the deserving 15.”
The Award, for which Obong Ukpong-Udo is nominated for, has been endorsed by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Lagos State Safety Commission, Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria (ISPON), World Safety Organization (WSO), America Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Society for Occupational and Environmental Health Physicians of Nigeria (SOEHPON), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Fire Protection Association of Nigeria (FPAN).
The letter further said the Award event will hold at the prestigious Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Lagos on September 2017, with the Minister of Labour and Employment as Special Guest among other dignitaries.
